Paw (HTTP & REST Client) App Reviews

Powerful, Elegant, Effective

If you are a developer working with web services, this tool has become a must-have for me. It has all the hallmarks of a professionally-built application for the Mac. It’s beautiful, stable, and it just works. The functionality has been implemented thoughtfully — setting up endpoints to test against is really easy and there are depths that you can surface as you become more comfortable. For example, their plugin architecture for network formats allows you to easily try requests in cURL or NSURLSession and many others! I use this thing all the time and it’s been terrific. Five star, would buy again.

Good app

This is a good app if you’re working with HTTP calls. UI is friendly, easy to use and that’s all that really matters. I mean when you’re testing HTTP calls, you want to see results quickly and focus on fixing issues. Great job PAW team. Some areas of improvement: As you know, there is a massive shift to HTTPS and pretty much any decent API today uses SSL. A great addition to PAW would be a proxy feature (similar to Charles) that can help decode HTTPS calls via the proxy. Second isssue is that PAW is not able to read NDJSON results. This might be a regression, I didn’t have any issues w/ JSON parsing before. Overall, very happy with PAW, it’s a good app. If you guys add proxy / HTTPS support (and let’s not forget SSL certs to install on Genymotion & other devices), I’ll ditch Charles in an instant :)

Great

Well crafted and pleasure to use. Still digging into the advance features but so far does everything I need to debug and explore a number of JSON based REST APIs. Agree with other reviewer. A HTTPS proxy similiar to what Charles can do would be wonderful though I’m not sure if that is in the scope of the project.

Does everything I’d expect, and more.

Comprehensive options, well organized interface, and unlike many of the other “HTTP tools” on the app store, actively maintained. The somewhat premium price is well deserved just for the API orgnizational abilities over managing “curl” options in a command line and giant text file, let alone for the data inspection capabilities after making a request.

Recommended

Must have for app development.

Brilliant app, but could use a tutorial

I love this app, but it could use a couple of video tutorials. The one that’s on youtube is a bit old, and it promises a second part that never happened. Tutorials please!

BEST

This is best HTTP & REST client ever!!! Worth it.

Great for restful server development

If you work on a project which interacts with restful server, or especially if you are developing restful server, Paw is a must. Yes, there are free options like curl or postman, but Paw is definetely the best. You can save server calls, fine-tune your calls to include JSON, header or url parameters. Paw also help you to send current date/time, or randomly generated date to use, or gives you the code snippet in the language of your choice so you can use directly in yout code. Thumbs up.

Awesome REST client

Ideal choise for those who need to test various types of API daily, especially for frontend-developers. Supports auth, autocomplete for headers, various types of send data. However, I still cant archieve how to use variables in request uri’s.

Super cool!

Very convenient and easy to use tool that makes interaction with any web-service simple and beautiful. Ideal for testing REST API or developing API based client app. Thanks a lot to developers!

How can I set timeout for requests?

Thanks for the great app! Itll be even better, if I can set timeouts for requests

App is barely usable since 2.1

Constant beach balls & hangs.

Best REST client ever!

I was trying to save money and use cocoarestclient (it is open source and free), but after getting some weird UX issues tried Paw. It is incredible, and definitely worth its cost.

Simply the BEST !

At the beginning I refused to pay such big amount of money for Paw. Then after an extensive evaluation of all other alternatives, I decided to try the Paw demo. It is really really the most complete REST client available today. Simply the Best. My compliments to the developer(s). PS: The only minor issue that I found is the lack of persistence of the domain selected. Always use the first available.

Fantastic

The best debug/rest client ever

Six stars!

PAW makes developing, testing, and playing with web services a developers dream. Armed with a couple of the freely available extensions you can even generate a code snippet for testing from various languages. The best part is being able to easily tweak the input values through the interface. I can not think of what they would add to this tool, but I am sure the developers will think of something. Very happy with the purchase.

Cat’s Meow

Because Paw costs more than an impulse buy and there is no in-app purchase approach, you have to fish around and find the non-App Store version to try. But it is absolutely worth it. This is the “killer app” for REST API work/exploration. Note the 5 star rating. A rarity as I set a lifetime limit of my age for 5 star ratings. Paw’s operation is superb and has just about everything you ever wanted in an app that you use for REST interface decoding; from a beginner REST explorer to the experienced ObjC / Cocoa developer needing to cut some trial & error out of the software development cycle. While the price is a little high, high enough to make you look around for an alternative, it is not out of reason. There are free tools out there that can give you pieces of what Paw can do but not all in one place and not all of Paw. And the more you use Paw, the more you find it can do. At a certain point you feel good in supporting these guys because they really knocked it out of the park with Paw. And they read these reviews and take action. (Found a thorn, now it is gone) Finally explored the code generators for the app and availble via the web page that integrates with Paw. The approach is clean, the code is KISS, does not try to impress you with being fancy, just getterdun style. Use this interface once and the time it saves you pays for Paw. If you do anything with web services, REST / SOAP, Objective C to HTML, this tool is invaluable. Best developer tool I have bought since CodeWarrior.

Awesome!

I’ve been using the free “GraphicalHTTPClient” on the App store for a while and just upgraded to Paw. Every single complaint I had about GraphicalHTTPClient has been resolved by this app. Great work on a life saving tool.

Great app

This is a great app. If you are working with REST APIs on a MAC and you don’t have PAW, what are you using? This is the best. $19.99 is a steal.

Huge time saver!

Paw really is the missing HTTP client. I wish I’d found it sooner! The biggest timesaver for me has been the dynamic values. It saves so much time over what I was doing with Postman. Looking forward to utilizing the new extensions support for Dynamic Values and the JSON editor in this version!
